About the project

GRUP MEDIAPRO BMS Produces the Opening Match of the Copa Chile at one of the remotest professional soccer grounds of the planet

Mediapro Chile (GRUP MEDIAPRO) produced the TV signal for the inaugural match of the Copa Chile on 27 April, which unfolded on one of the most remote professional pitches globally: Robinson Crusoe Island, part of the Juan Fernández archipelago. In a historic first, the 2024 Copa Chile introduced an Opening match pitting the Juan Fernández team, representing the islands, against the Primera B Club Santiago Wanderers. The match attracted almost all of the 1,000 inhabitants of the island who saw the Wanderers win (2-1).

The island, situated in the South Pacific, lies approximately 400 nautical miles from the Chilean mainland. Mediapro Chile undertook a complex production endeavor, involving the transportation of the production crew and technical equipment by boat to facilitate the broadcast. This effort allowed them to provide coverage of the match for the entire country via TNT Sports.

Due to the adverse weather conditions and the remote geographical location of the island, there were no commercial travel options available. Consequently, the Chilean navy played a pivotal role by deploying its ship, Aquiles, to transport the cameras, transmission systems, and all other essential equipment required for the broadcast. This ensured transmission from a Third B division soccer ground. Notably, the broadcast professionals and even the players were aboard the Aquiles, embarking on the 45-hour journey to the island.

This was not the first time Mediapro Chile has been tasked with executing what can only be described as an ‘extreme production’. Last year, the company produced a soccer match played at the southernmost point on the planet, in Puerto Natales. With a presence in the country since 2018, Mediapro Chile boasts ample experience in live sporting event production. Notably, it served as the host broadcaster of the Pan American and Parapan American Games held in the country last year.

Our services

Mediapro Chile, responsible for broadcasting the match nationwide via TNT Sports, had to board the entire team and essential equipment onto a naval vessel for a 45-hour journey to reach the island, located 400 nautical miles from mainland.
