Getting ahead of the needs of the sports industry

VAR

The VAR system is basically a fifth referee positioned off the field, who can watch any play on multiple screens from multiple angles, including in slow-motion. The VAR referee can then advise the officials on the field. Currently, we are second worldwide providers of Video Assistant Referee (VAR). GRUP MEDIAPRO BMS is actively working on securing VAR contracts with other leagues and sports. We signed with 10 Football Leagues multi-year contracts.

Goal Line Technology (GLT)

Goal-line technology is a system used in football to determine whether the ball has entirely crossed the goal line, ensuring accurate decision-making in critical scoring situations. Thanks to our partnership with Vieww we are able to deploy and offer the GLT services. In 2023 we have started to deploy some stadium in Portugal. We also use high-speed cameras strategically aligned with goal line to offer more basic and cost effective solution.

Software Analysis

At GRUP MEDIAPRO BMS, one of our strategic objectives is to facilitate the work of sports professionals in key decision-making moments which can influence the outcome of a competition. We achieve this by providing them with objective information through images or dates on which their decisions can be based.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is amongst the newest services we offer. On approval by FIFA in 2012, Mediapro was one of the pioneers in providing the service to clubs, federations and international football associations. The technology offers a replay of the action from different angles and cameras to allow the official to decide on a disputed incident. VAR has also been utilised in other sports such as basketball, handball, or paddle.

We also offer another revolutionary professional video analysis system called MediaCoach and AutomaticTV. It is an AI (artificial intelligence) based production system specially created to produce sports coverage without human intervention.
