About the project
The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 19th championship of this kind for men’s national basketball teams. This multisport event had a total of 32 teams and was hosted by multiple nations for the first time in its history—the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia—from 25 August to 10 September 2023.
GRUP MEDIAPRO served as host broadcaster in the 20 matches played at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila and has taken charge of the technical installation of the three ‘venues’ of the Philippine capital where the championship took place: the Araneta Coliseum, the Philippine Arena and the Mall of Asia Arena.
With extensive experience in the production of live sporting events around the world and a team of 128 professionals and a great technical deployment, the group was also responsible for the video arbitration system (IRS_Instant Replay System) of the championship and in charge of implementing the technology in the facilities of the three countries where the competition took place.
In an exciting final, Canada beat the always powerful Serbia team to win the championship (83-77) for the first time in history while the defending champions, Spain, lost to Latvia and Canada in the second round and finished only at ninth place.
It also served as qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics, where the top two teams from each of the Americas and Europe, and the top team from each of Africa, Asia and Oceania, qualified alongside the tournament’s host France.
