Embracing at-home production technologies to better support our clients
There’s no bigger trend affecting the market today than Remote Production, also known as REMI or remote production, is becoming to be increasingly popular. This technology allows video producers to capture and produce live event content from a central facility, reducing costs and maximizing resources while delivering high-quality content to audiences. And although many organizations began using REMI workflows during the global pandemic, the great advantages that remote production offers today have made this new technology establish itself either as the only option or as a complement to the traditional production approach.
In recent years, MEDIAPRO BMS has specialized in REMI productions and workflows on a global scale. This approach captures live content at remote locations and transmits it via IP links to a centralized production facility, where the final program is meticulously crafted and distributed. While camera operators still capture the action on-site, the signal is now transmitted remotely using high-speed fiber, public Internet or mobile bonded networks. From there, commentary, presentation, production, and graphics are added at one of our global production centers, including our hub in Barcelona, Madrid, Lisboa, Toronto, Buenos Aires y Santiago de Chile.
We aim to tailor our technical solutions to precisely meet the unique needs of each event and client, whether that means delivering a fully remote centralised production model or creating a balanced hybrid of onsite and remote production approaches. We make today’s remote-production workflows a reality, ensuring flexibility and efficiency without compromising quality.
3 REMI production models that provide flexibility, cost-efficiency, and scalability
Production where the entire workflow—video, audio, graphics, and editing—is hosted and managed in the cloud, rather than on-premise or using localized hardware. All production tools and resources (like editing software, switchers, etc.) are hosted on cloud platforms and the production teams can access the tools and content from any location with internet access.
It’s ideal for multi-location productions or events with distributed teams, minimizing physical infrastructure by leveraging cloud resources and reducing the need for on-site hardware.
This type of production is ideal for distributing roles, tools, and processes across different locations, with multiple teams or contributors working from various places on the same project. It allows key production roles (directors, editors, sound engineers, etc.) to be spread across different facilities or home offices. By combining local hardware with remote technologies, some production elements can be managed on-site while others are handled remotely.
Perfect for productions involving geographically dispersed teams.
A fully remote production model involves centralizing all key production processes in a remote control room or facility, with only essential capture (e.g., cameras) occurring on location. The live feed is transmitted back to this central production hub for processing. This approach reduces the need for extensive on-site infrastructure and personnel by consolidating production tasks remotely.
It’s commonly used for live sports, news events, and concerts, where content is captured on location but production and management are remotely.
